bus

BUS? A BUS???
The wheels on the bus (don't) go round and round...
You wake up on a bus.
It's a very nice bus, though. Luxurious, even! The seats are comfy and can be used as beds, with pajamas also available for you to change into. It's stocked with enough food and drink to last a week or so, along with a bathroom that also has a shower and free toiletries to use. The downside, however, is that apparently you have to share—as you're not alone when you awaken.
It seems like you're not where you should be, either. The bus comes equipped with TV screens, but rather than any movie or show, it's reality TV in the most literal sense. You might even recognize a few faces over there in the terminal, but either way, you can watch the participants go about their day. You're as equally confused as they are, after all, even if miles (?) separate you.
For that matter, that's pretty much all you can do. You're stuck on this bus. You can't access where the driver's controls would be, and there's no driver to begin with; in fact, the bus isn't even moving. The doors are shut, and any attempt to break the windows will send you bouncing back. Opening the shutters will treat you to the enticing sight of... outside airport scenery. You're on airport grounds somewhere, but you can't tell anything other than that. If you do some digging around, though, one compartment on the bus contains a random assortment of card games and board games for you to entertain yourselves with.
Better get cozy, because you might be here for a while.
RUNDOWN
  • This will be your one mingle post until next Friday.
  • You do not have any personal belongings on you. Unlike the other players, you also don't have a phone. Sad.
  • The W0 weekly effect, once revealed, will apply to you as well.
  • Your characters are able to see anything that takes place on the public mingles, including network posts, via the bus TV screens. You may also handwave them being able to see the initial notification that the players all received on their phones.
  • We will have a small, pseudo-mini-event for you on W0 Wednesday at 12pm PST/3pm EST.

[ he actually is, but that's never explicitly said in vld, just in the older series...very dumb.

sei is the first to share her whole name, so he decides to be polite.
]

Keith Kogane. There being only four of us, it sure does make introductions easier.

So, what was you're previous round like?
feminitis: (why are boys so dumb)

I'm sure we both wish this wasn't happening, but it's nice to meet you regardless, Kogane-san.

[VLD WIKI STEERED ME WRONG, THANK YOU FOR NOTHING, WIKI]

Well... the last one I was in was a collection of people who had already been through this sort of thing before, gathered at a hotel to provide "entertainment" for an evil entity who had taken people important to them hostage.

[ oh the honorific. help. he will not say anything to it. also shakes the wiki. i hate it. ]

Likewise. [ nods. ]

I see... so that'd mean you've done this at least twice before, if the last one sounds similar to this time. [ girl your craus.... ]
feminitis: (s...igh...)

[personal profile] feminitis 2025-06-01 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
...in a manner of speaking. I was a participant in one of these things twice, a hostage once, and in the last one I was in I and some others infiltrated the hotel and replaced the original facilitators because the odds were sorely stacked against the participants and we hoped to help give them a fighting chance.

[so this is the fifth fucking time she's found herself involved in a murdergame in some way. yay!]

[ math lady meme as she says all this. he frowns. ]

Guess you're our expert then. Sorry to hear that.

With the hotel, what ended up happening there, did you all succeed?

[ he wants to believe they did, if she's here, but you never know!! ]
feminitis: (my will is second to none)

[personal profile] feminitis 2025-06-01 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
It is what it is.

[SHE REALLY WISHES SHE WAS NOT AN EXPERT ON THIS.]

The participants succeeded. The entity that had brought them to the hotel was a creature that is entirely bound by contracts - it had forced them to sign a contract stating that if they were in the lobby of the hotel to check out at the end of an eight-week period, they would be free to go, but anyone who was not... they and their hostages would be his to keep. He'd rigged the place to make it nearly impossible for them to do so, but... they found a way for all of them to make it there, and he was forced to let them go.

[she smiles a little grimly.]

He was really mad about it. I was more mad that I wasn't allowed to just stab the bastard.

[ hotel nightmares with gordon ramsey... ]

I would've been too. [ about the not getting to stab him part. ]

Wonder if he complained to whoever is running this round, if he was that mad. Glad you guys all made it out though, you and your hostages.... which is insane that there were hostages.

[ he has to comeback around to that part because HUH ]

[personal profile] feminitis 2025-06-01 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
...if he did, I really will stab him this time, and no one's gonna stop me.

[me just sweating because the game DID end with the nightman screaming for his lawyers... help]

It's, uh. I guess he wanted some guarantee that there would be as much bloodshed as possible. A lot of the people who tend to end up in these situations can be somewhat self-sacrificial; they're often more prepared to kill to protect others than to save their own skins.

[personal profile] bladeward 2025-06-01 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll provide back up, in case he tries something funny.

[ lawyers schmowers. keith doesn't care. ]

I see. [ he feels seen in this moment. oop. ] And I assume he got what he wanted out of that, at least before you guys beat him at his own game.
feminitis: (040)

[personal profile] feminitis 2025-06-01 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
The whole thing was rigged anyway. In addition to those threats, there were also shadows possessing people and getting them to kill. He wanted as much bloodshed as possible, because he wanted as few people as possible to be able to make it back to the lobby to check out at the end.

[she grumbles.]

It would have been better if he hadn't gotten the show he was looking for, but if he'd realized what was going on before the contracts were fulfilled, he would have found some other way to keep them all.

This guy sucks.

[ makes note to kill nightman on the spot. ]

Sounds like the type that'd never be satisfied, even if everyone was dead in the end. If you ever see him again, definitely take him down and let me know if you want back up.

[ immediately becomes a nightman anti. ]

How'd he rope you and your crew into it, did you guys also have hostages on the line.
feminitis: (029)

[personal profile] feminitis 2025-06-03 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
He does. An entity that plays games with people's lives like that doesn't deserve to live!

[she wants to murder the nightman so baaaad]

I'll definitely let you know. And ah, not exactly. One thing led to another and we ended up there before it was meant to begin - and we worked with a few of the original employees to infiltrate the hotel and take out the ones who were really going to make things difficult for the participants. We had to pretend to be the ones he'd originally hired the whole time so he wouldn't figure out why they weren't dying as quickly as he'd expected them to... the participants did all the hard work, though. We just bought them enough time for them to find the loopholes they needed.
bladeward: (013)

[personal profile] bladeward 2025-06-06 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
[ he supports her 100000%

listens closely and nods.
]

Really does sound like if it wasn't for you all, the participants would've been dead in maybe a week's time. Managing to drag it out for eight is impressive. You guys did a good job, especially seeing as how you all managed to get out on time.

[ that sounds like an awful time for real. ]
feminitis: (urrrk i hecked up)

[personal profile] feminitis 2025-06-06 11:53 am (UTC)(link)
[she shakes her head.]

I don't think they would have died that quickly. That entity is a sadist... it definitely wanted it dragged out for the whole eight weeks. It just wanted as many of them dead at the end as it could get.

They probably would have found some way to survive, but... it was just so unfair. And many of the original facilitators of the game were awful! [she shudders.] One of them was a cannibal, even! And another had six hundred wives, and from what I saw in the files, was quite terrifying on the battlefield. I can't even begin to imagine what would have happened if they'd been left in charge!
